About

Welcome to Paul’s Taveuni, Fiji Lifestyle Web Page

This web page is a head’s up for my worldwide friends on what a tropical paradise lifestyle in Fiji can look like, and what to expect when you visit for the first time. Repeat visitors already know what to expect – hence the repeat visit!

My first trip to Fiji was in 1992 for a dive trip to Taveuni. I was a very keen diver and underwater photographer at the time, and already knew all about Fiji being the Soft Coral Capital of the World, and Taveuni being the home of Rainbow Reef (and the Great White Wall – one of the Top 10 World Dive Sites).

Over the next ~15 years I made a few more similar dive trips to Fiji, and particularly Taveuni, enjoying great diving and spectacular scenic golf on its local course every trip. I then decided to buy my water front property here in 2010. It is right on Somosomo Straits – ~8km opposite the Great White Wall and ~1km south of the golf course.
Initially I considered my Taveuni place, Mana Tadra (Magic Dream), as a holiday house, but by 2014 I had made it my full time home. And this really helped me escape the rat race, keep me tuned up for my work adventures, destress, reduce my blood pressure and better pursue my near lifelong love of snorkeling, diving, boating, underwater photography and golf.

My previous life in Australia started as a child migrant from England, so I already understood that a change in home country can be good, and my work adventures and other travels as an adult had opened my eyes to further opportunities outside Australia, and Fiji turned out to be just right for me in semi-retirement.

Why Fiji?

  • Great people and tropical paradise environment
  • Nature and adventure everywhere
  • Plenty of recreational activities
  • Happy, friendly, safe, and inexpensive
  • Sparsely populated and a great place to escape the rat race

Why Taveuni?

  • World class diving, golfing, fishing, beach / water fall treks
  • Waterfront living in a low density community, our own marina and everywhere is dog friendly – everything is easy
  • Neighbors (and myself) invariably buy the block next door to our 1 acre properties to make more spacious 2 acre properties, rather than subdivide already modest 0.25 acre properties as they now do in Australia
  • Great like-minded animal loving friends in the dive resort, pearl/giant clam/fish farming, fishing charter, sail charter and bar/restaurant businesses.
  • No traffic lights, parking meters, speed traps, etc. (quiet roads and only 1 stop sign on the island at the airport)
  • An opportunity to go back in time to a simpler life – Taveuni hasn’t changed much in the ~27yrs since my first visit
  • Last place in the world to get any of the world’s problems
  • A perfect option for a semi-retirement base

Why This Web Page?

A neighbor of mine here on Taveuni is a webpage guru, and has done great work for my pearl farmer mates. So this seems like an ideal alternative to social media (which I have avoided) or to regularly distracting my busy friends with email updates, where I normally bombard them with attached photos too.

Scuba Diving The Rainbow Reef

Amazing sights under the waters of the Somosomo Strait all along the Rainbow Reef. The opportunity to dive such a wondrous place on a regular basis was one of the prime factors in my decision to buy a piece of paradise on Taveuni Island.

Catches of the Day

There are some great fishing spots around Taveuni, Vanua Levu, and the smaller neighbouring islands. Fishing is a great day out, and we always go stocked with some adult refreshments just in case the fish aren’t biting.

Sailing The Straits and Open Ocean

Taking the boat out with a bunch of good mates is a great way to spend the day, or a whole weekend. Along the way there’s plenty of fantastic scenery, snorkel spots, and maybe a secret beach or small island to get Castaway.
